INFO: Windows Server and Virtualization with M-Color

Windows Server as M-Color License Server

Although Windows server platforms are not officially tested, the M-Color license server seem to be working well with them. The used Server version should use the same kernel as the M-Color compatible Desktop version. For example, Windows Server 2012 uses kernel 6.2, which is used on the Windows 8, which in turn is compatible with M-Color 9.7 - 9.9. Here is a good comparison page about server and desktop kernels:

And here is information about compatibilities between different M-Color, AutoCad and Windows versions:

Virtualization (VMware) and the License Server

Like the server platform, virtualization (VMware) can be used for operating the Windows (Server) operating system and the M-Color license server. It is good to remember, that virtualized server might have a different IP pool than your office/host server, so you might have to give its IP address manually to the clients if (and quite usually when) they don't find the license automatically.

As said before, although Windows Server and virtualization seem to work, they have not been officially tested in those environments. That said, M-Files Corporations is not responsible of their installation or the problems they might cause.
