How to force the Windows Explorer File Menu to be permanently visible in M-Files Desktop Client
Posted by Josh Repp (M-Files) on 01 February 2018 11:12 PM

In M-Files 2018 (12.x.x.x), several M-Files functions are hidden by the default Desktop Client UI such as the ability to Refresh External Objects or "Add a Document from Scanner...". The menu required to access these options can be found by simply pressing 'Alt' while looking at the Desktop UI but that will only make the menu appear until you click away onto something else. If you want the menu to stay visible permanently, there is a setting within Windows itself that controls it's visibility. To make this menu permanently visible, follow the steps below:

--Windows 10

1. While looking at a vault's "Home" page with the M-Files Desktop Client, press the 'Alt' key on the keyboard to make the File Menu appear. Select the Tools menu and then select Folder Options.

2. On the Folder Options pop-up window, go to the View tab and enable the "Always show menus" option which should be near the top of the list.
