M-Files 2018 and SharePoint Listing Web Part's Claims-based Authentication Compatibility
Posted by Ville Karinen (M-Files) on 05 February 2018 09:39 AM

M-Files 2018 changes the compatibility between M-Files server and SharePoint Listing Web Part for the on-premises versions of SharePoint. This change does not affect the SharePoint Online Web Part.

Starting from M-Files 2018, using claims-based authentication requires that the "Authentication plugin" field must be empty in SharePoint Listing Web Part's settings. However, web part versions prior to 2.0.12.1 will automatically fill in a default value to this field if it is left empty; this will cause the M-Files server to reject the authentication claim.

To use claims-based authentication with the web part after upgrading to M-Files 2018:

  1. Contact us for the latest version of the web part:
    • If you have a valid license for the web part, contact M-Files Customer Support.
    • If you do not have a license for the web part, please contact your sales representative or sales@m-files.com to purchase a license.
  2. Install the latest version of the web part to your SharePoint server.
  3. Access the settings of each instance of the web part on your SharePoint pages, and clear the value from the "Authentication plugin" field.

As an alternative to upgrading the web part, you can switch from claims-based authentication to "Windows user" or "M-Files user" authentication option.
