Stuck in Offline Mode When the Vault Connection Test is Successful
Posted by Will Lyles (M-Files) on 14 May 2018 07:25 PM

If you are experiencing issues with being stuck in Offline mode when logging in but the vault connection tests are successful from the document vault connection settings, following the steps below can help to resolve the issue.

In this situation, the fact that the test connection in the document vault connection settings works, suggests that the problem is with the HTTP proxies being handled with different user identities.
The M-Files client runs under the local system identity, while the document vault connection settings run under the user's identity.
HTTP proxy settings are relevant in M-Files cloud vault use because the traffic between the client and server is HTTPS. This issue can be resolved by performing the steps below.

1) Locate the two registry keys below:
- HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections

2) Export the registry values from the HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections registry key.

3) Copy the working values from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive to the "local system" user account's registry hive (i.e. HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections).

This should solve the problem, since after this the M-Files client will be getting the correct HTTP proxy settings and should be able to connect to the M-Files cloud vault when running under the local system account.
If the issue still persists, restore the exported registry settings from step 2 and contact M-Files Support at for assistance.
