How to enable a Property as a Grouping Level Filter
Posted by Yvette Chappell (M-Files) on 24 August 2018 10:48 PM

M-Files provides the option to allow/disallow use of properties, objects, and classes as grouping levels. This allows Admins to better tailor the views and grouping level options that users can access.

If you would like to create a View with a Grouping Level, but the property definition does not appear in the Grouping Levels properties listing, you may need to allow that property definition to be used.

You can manage this from the M-Files Admin with the following steps:

  1. Open the M-Files Admin and open the vault via the left-hand side menu
  2. Browse to Metadata Structure (Hierarchical View)
  3. Browse to the Property/Object/Class that you wish to use as a Grouping Level
  4. Right-click and select Properties.
  5. At the bottom of the menu, you will see the option to select "Allow this object type to be used as a grouping level in views".
  6. After this, you will be able to use that Property as a grouping level in the M-Files Desktop
