How to Change the Maximum Number of Event Log Records
Posted by Vesa Kauranen (M-Files) on 04 September 2018 01:52 PM
By default, M-Files stores 10,000 events in the inventory transaction log. When the maximum size is reached, M-Files will automatically remove events from the earliest time. However, if the Electronic Signatures module is in use and the Advanced Event Log features have been enabled, the event log records all events without any restrictions.

The maximum size of event log records can be increased with a following server-side registry setting
 Key Path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<version>\Server\MFServer
 Key Name  MaxNumberOfEventsInEventLog
Key Type  REG_DWORD (DWORD 32-bit Value)
Key Data  Maximum number of stored M-Files Event Log events. Default: 10000

In the attached screen shots you can see how the maximum size of event log records has been set to the value 20000.

Please note that increasing the number of stored events will increase the size of the database and can therefore degrade server performance.
