M-Files Web for PC and Mac: missing Java-applet support in browsers
Posted by Teemu Piiroinen (M-Files) on 06 November 2018 01:55 PM

Many of the widely used browser types (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) have dropped support for Java-applets in their newest versions.  This causes some issues for M-Files Web users when they are trying to modify documents in M-Files using M-Files Web:

1. Double clicking a document: document does not get checked out and the user is asked if he/she wants to either open the document or save the document on his/her computer

2. Check out the document and then double click the document: user is asked if he/she wants to either open the document or save the document on his/her computer

In both of the above scenarios user can save the document on his/her computer, modify the document and drag and drop the modified document on top of the original document in M-Files. It does not matter if the document is checked out or not.

To get the modifying of documents work more fluently, without the need to download the document on the user's computer, please see the below options:

PC:

1. Use Chrome browser and M-Files for Chrome

2. Use Office Online integration to open documents in M-Files Web. The Office Online integration is supported in M-Files 2018 and later. Note that you must also have a valid Office 365 subscription to be able to edit documents with the Office Online tools. Mac:

1. Use Office Online integration to open documents in M-Files Web. The Office Online integration is supported in M-Files 2018 and later.
