External object type logging
Posted by Mikko Punta (M-Files) on 20 March 2019 03:26 PM
In case you have issues when refreshing external object types, you can enable logging for external object types to get more information about the problem. This can be done with the following server-side registy keys:

Logging can be configured (on/off) by vault and object type:
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<M-Files version>\Server\MFServer\VaultOptions\<Vault-GUID>]
- string value "LoggingEnabledForExternalObjectTypes"
- List of object type IDs for which logging is enabled, for example "174,180", or "-1" to enable for all OTs.
- If value is missing, empty, or cannot be interpreted as list of object types, logging is disabled for the vault.

Log file directory is configurable per vault:
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<M-Files version>\Server\MFServer\VaultOptions\<Vault-GUID>]
- string value "ExternalObjectTypeRefreshLogDir"="D:\ServerLogs"
- If value is missing or it refers to non-existing directory, logging is disabled for the vault.

Verbose logging can be enabled per vault:
- Currently affects only by listing external ID of each item retrieved from external DB
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<M-Files version>\Server\MFServer\VaultOptions\<Vault-GUID>]
- dword value "EnableVerboseLoggingExternalObjectTypes"
- 0 = disabled (Default)
- non-zero integer = enabled

These registy keys are available onwards from version 11.3.4330.143.

In case you still need help with the issue, please contact support@m-files.com and attach the logs.
