Version 1.1 | Last Updated 8 Aug 2019

1     Overview

Select Folder feature is pretty unknown feature, which could be used in situations where a view grouping level setup returns lots of results.

2     Solution / Workaround

Select Folder link can be enabled from the view grouping level settings at Advanced tab by selecting “Show only subfolders that were recently selected by the user”.The setting shows up when the default maximum amount of 500 virtual folder is exceeded.

In case this amount is now sufficient for some reason, it can be changed by global server-side registry setting. This setting changes the maximum result count for folder listing default value.

NOTE: Changing this setting drastically upwards will cause decrease of overall whole server performance as this setting will affect to the every document vault on the server.

  1. On server machine, open registry editor by clicking Start and they by typing regedit to the menu. Launch the application.
  2. Navigate to the following registry tree:

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<version>\Server\MFServer and change the <version> to match your M-Files Server’s exact build number, f.ex.:  19.5.7811.7

  1. Make sure that you’re at the MFServer branch. Then, right-click on right side of the application > New > DWORD value (32-bit)
  2. Name the value as MaxResultsCountForFolderListing and press Enter. Then press Enter again and set the wanted value. Click OK and close the regedit.
  3. Setting is not effective until the M-Files Server process is restarted.

Some additional details about the feature is available at the M-Files User Guide:
