How to gather network log from Google Chrome for M-Files

1     Overview

Google Chrome is the preferred browser for using M-Files Web as it offers the ability to use M-Files for Chrome extension with full features capability like M-Files Desktop client. Investigating issue related to M-Files Web (MFWA) and M-Files for Chrome extension, M-Files support personal might ask for network log for a certain period of time/requests. Network log provides detailed information on underlying communication between web browser and M-Files server including the status of each call and response.

2     Solution

Follow the below steps to capture network log from google chrome after opening Google Chrome browser.

  1. Open the web page you're having troubles.
  2. Open 'developer Tools" from Google Chrome menu. Menu -> More tools -> Developer tools. Shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + I
  3. Navigate to "Network" tab in developer tools.
  4. Reload the page. All network activities are logged in Network panel.
  5. Hit red circle in the left side of the Network panel to stop recording network log when required logs are gathered.
  6. Right click in any request name in bottom panel of Network panel and hit "Save all as HAR with content" and save the file in a suitable location.
  7. Send the HAR(.har) file to M-Files support for analyzing.
