1     Overview / Work Notes

You must be using dtSearch for this to apply.

Set up a new folder for indexes such as C:\M-Files Indices.

Filedata

Registry path

M-Files 2015.2 or newer: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServer\VaultOptions\{Vault_GUID}\Indices\FileData

M-Files 2015.1 or earlier: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServer\Vaults\{Vault_GUID}\Indices\FileData

Registry keys

Value name: IndexedData

Type: REG_DWORD

Description: Indexed data (1 = metadata, 2 = filedata)

Valid value: 2

Value name: Enabled

Type: REG_DWORD

Description: Specifies whether the registry is enabled or not

Valid value: 1

Value name: Path

Type: REG_SZ

Description: Path to the file data index folder created above.

Valid value: C:\M-Files Indices\Filedata

Metadata

Registry path

M-Files 2015.2 or newer: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\\Server\MFServer\VaultOptions\{Vault_GUID}\Indices\Metadata

M-Files 2015.1 or earlier: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServer\Vaults\{Vault_GUID}\Indices\Metadata

Registry keys

Value name: IndexedData

Type: REG_DWORD

Description: Indexed data (1 = metadata, 2 = filedata)

Valid value: 1

Value name: Enabled

Type: REG_DWORD

Description: Specifies whether the registry is enabled or not

Valid value: 1

Value name: Path

Type: REG_SZ

Description: Path to the file data index folder created above.

Valid value: C:\M-Files Indices\Metadata

Now take the vault offline and back online. This will start rebuilding the indexes in the new location while still using the old location for searching.

After the indexing is complete as defined in the indexlog.dat file, you can put the following registries in place.

M-Files 2015.2 or newer: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServerVaultOptions\{Vault_GUID}

M-Files 2015.1 or earlier: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServer\Vaults\{Vault_GUID}

Value: ActiveFiledataIndex

Type: REG_SZ

Description: The key name created above

Valid value: FileData

Value: ActiveMetadataIndex

Type: REG_SZ

Description: The key named created above

Valid value: Metadata

2     Solution / Workaround

Two additional registry settings must be put in place for M-Files to stop updating the old index.

Registry path

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\Server\MFServerVaultOptions\{Vault_GUID}

There will be two keys below this. One starts with M and the other starts with F and they are followed by a GUID. These are the indexes automatically created by M-Files. Insert a DWORD with the following

Value: Enabled

Type: REG_DWORD

Description: Enable/disable the built in indexes

Valid value: 0
