Posted by Toufik Maafi (M-Files) on 20 August 2019 12:23 PM

Background

Starting from the version of M-Files 19.8.8114.7, it is now possible to enable long path feature in M-Files in order to allow longer path in M-Files Desktop.

The Solution

Requirement: Windows 10 v1607 or higher, M-Files 19.8.8114.7 or higher

First configure Local Group Policy:

  1. Open Group Policy Editor (Press Windows Key and type gpedit.msc and hit Enter key)
  2. Navigate to the following directory: Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem > NTFS. Or in Filesystem directly
  3. Click Enable NTFS long paths option and enable it.

 You should see something like this and enable it:

Check if the following keys are correctly configured to 1:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\FileSystem]

"LongPathsEnabled"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]

"LongPathsEnabled"=dword:00000001

4- Restart the computer, in order to apply the changes.

The setting can be sent via GPO in order to apply it to all user’s machine.
