Frequently Asked Questions: How To
Automatic check in not working for PDF files
Posted by Ariful Mahmud (M-Files) on 25 September 2019 11:04 AM

1     Overview

Sometimes automatic check-in for pdf file doesn't work as expected in M-Files. For example, if you are using Adobe Acrobat DC for editing pdf files. The pdf can be edited, but the updated pdf file doesn't get saved automatically into M-Files when the files is closed. Let's assume following settings is in place accordingly.

  • Behavior by File Extension (.pdf) is set to "Check out" (M-Files Desktop Setting -> Setting -> User-specific Settings)
  • Behavior at file close → Check in immediately (M-Files Desktop Setting -> Setting -> User-specific Settings)

2     Solution / Workaround

First make sure that, you have added correct process specific behavior for "acrord32.exe" and "acrobat.exe" in computer specific setting (M-Files Desktop Setting -> Settings -> Computer-specific settings -> Miscellaneous -> Customize).

Then, Disable "Protected mode at startup" in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Adobe Acrobat Reader -> Edit -> Preferences -> Security (Enhanced). Uncheck "Enable Protected mode at startup" option.

This should fix the issue with automatic check-in for pdf files with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
