M-Files executables use only SHA-2 code-signing
Posted by Sakari Heinonen (M-Files) on 12 June 2019 11:23 AM

In the past, M-Files executables have been dual-signed with both SHA-1 and SHA-2 code-signing algorithms for better backward compatibility. Due to weaknesses in SHA-1 algorithm and to align to industry standards, executables of M-Files Online June '19 Update and M-Files 2018 Update 1906 and later are going to be signed only with the more secure SHA-2 algorithm. While this should not cause any issues, according to Microsoft, some Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 computers that do not have the latest Windows updates installed may be affected.

If you encounter any issues on Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 7 computers when updating M-Files, please make sure that you have the latest Windows updates installed. If installing the latest Windows updates does not resolve the issue, do not hesitate to contact us at

Cloud vault connection issue after May 19th update
Posted by Sakari Heinonen (M-Files) on 21 May 2019 11:10 AM

Some cloud vault customers have reported cloud vault connection issues after May 19th Cloud Vault update to version 19.5.7811.7.
A workaround is to re-establish the cloud vault connection from Document Vault Connections or to update to M-Files June 2019 update (version 19.6.7900.3).

Cloud vault connection issue with unpatched Windows 7 workstations and Windows 2012 Servers
Posted by Sakari Heinonen (M-Files) on 29 April 2019 05:34 PM

Cloud customers using unpatched Windows 7 workstations or Windows 2012 servers might have encountered cloud connectivity issues since April 28th, 2019 cloud update.

This is due to disabling soon-to-be deprecated and vulnerable TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 protocols on all M-Files Cloud Servers as per common data security recommendations. Network connections using TLS 1.0 or 1.1 will no longer be accepted by M-Files Cloud servers after the April 28 update.

You can find instructions on how to enable the required TLS 1.2 protocol and more about the issue in our support article:

Cloud Vaults unavailable with unpatched Windows 7 or Windows 2012 Servers

M-Files Cloud customers had been notified of this change prior to the update and instructed to enable TLS 1.2 on older operating systems in order to avoid disruptions in the service. Workstations running Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10 or newer Windows servers, as well as mobile and M-Files Web Access users were not affected by the change.
